2023 「Home」Exhibition
Sept 1st, 2023
Dec. 18, 2022, the 8th Love Rocks Art “Music, Reading and Arts” Children’s Art Exhibition was held in the auditorium hall of The Children’s Orchestra Society in Jericho. The founder of “Love Rocks Art”, three sisters Kelly, Lemon, and Amy invited young artists to a top-notch art exhibition created and curated by themselves.
The topic selection of “Love Rocks Art” every year is truly a meaningful process, taking the children to experience the many bits and pieces brought by a connected theme. About life, about family, about society, about belief…about friends, about order… This year, the theme is “My father, let love be great”.
Every displayed artwork has its own story. Little artists from all over the world (Annie, Emily, Eve, Aiko from the United States, Isabel from the United Kingdom, Loli from Hong Kong, Eve, Emma, Krystal from Beijing, Ashira from Guangzhou, Mia from Canada, Annie from the United States, Lucy, Eve, Ecko, Aimee) not only showed their themed artworks, but also wrote about their fathers in their own words. Another highlight of the Children’s Art Exhibition is that the works of the artist Mr. Li Xiaoqiang, father of three sisters, are also interspersed in this exhibition. The artworks of the children were recreated on the basis of the works of their fathers, which express a new bond of emerging life. Such bonding between children and the father once again confirms this year’s theme: My father, let love be great.
At the event site, Daozi, a highly respected art critic, carefully observed and commented on the children’s works. Curator Hao Qingsong and scientist Ji Maoye from Cold Spring Harbor Lab also praised the children’s creativity. Helen Chen, the art instructor with over 20 years of experience also presented her expertise, giving critical instructions during the arts and craft time at the event site.
Among the young artists, protégé Isabel He from the UK won the Honorary Order and held her own exhibition when she was only 5 years old. Hundreds of her works were on display at St Andrews Arts Center in Gravesend Kent, following the prestigious Tony Larkin Memorial Award. She is also the youngest-ever member of the Gravesham Arts Group. Now eight years old, she has successfully held two large-scale solo exhibitions. The “My Father” she exhibited this time has profound meaning, as the whole canvas was filled with her love for her father!
Another supporter of The 8th International Children’s Art Exhibition is Ma Youcheng, executive director of The Children’s Orchestra Society. Together with her husband, guitarist Michael Dadap, she took over the Children’s Orchestra Society in New York in 1984, founded by her father, Ma Xiaojun.
They uphold the purpose of “Teaching Children the Language of Music,” starting from a tuition fee of $25 a semester, hoping that children of different skin colors, backgrounds, and talents can enjoy The joy of music. Born into a family of musicians, Yo-Cheng Ma is proficient in violin, viola, and chamber music performances. Talking about the importance of music education for young people, Ma Youcheng said: “Some students said that we not only teach them music, but also teach them how to love others.”
Continuing Li Xiaoqiang’s solo exhibition “The Third Abstraction” in New Jersey, the discovery of light surpasses the first and second abstractions of the world and human beings as creatures, demonstrating the Creator’s glory. The glory of love, originates from the Father’s love for man, and also passes on the relationship of love to us as creatures, letting us know that we love our neighbor as ourselves. The family is like a mirror image of the Father’s love. The role of the father has a very important influence on the growth of the child.
Father, you are stronger than you think!
The power of a father is the power of love!
Erica Shang, the founder of the organizer, TT’s living room, said that the choice of the theme this time was inspired by reading her husband’s works. She recalled that in an interview held in the Bird’s Nest in Beijing back in 2015, her view of life is not yet matured, though she already had three lovely daughters. When the reporter asked her why she created such a glamorous event for her daughters, she answered, “because of the miracle of life, love is really amazing!” The reporter asked again about the ranking of the family. She answered with certainty that she would be ranked first, her children second, her friends third, and her husband fourth.
Yet this time at the Children’s Art Exhibition, she told the reporter that her life has grown. She acknowledged that she got the order wrong back then, as the husband should have come first. The family is like a dream community that produces happiness, as the wife stands at the center of the family.
Under the leadership of the husband, the wife measures the healthy development and future goals of the family. The wife is not only a housewife, but also a business CEO. A group with the same sense of mission and leadership, soft, but not weak. For years, Erica Shang has called on like-minded mothers to volunteer together and keep the “Love Rocks Art” going for eight years. Erica hopes that love can be passed on through the ongoing project.
